WATCH: New videos highlight the importance of Westmeath's hedgerows

The environmental importance of Westmeath's hedgerows is explored in two fascinating video released recently.

The first video, A View Over The Hedge, features Moyvore farmer James Ham, who practises the traditional art of hedge laying, and the National Parks and Wildlife (NPWS) Ranger for south Westmeath, Therese Kelly.

The video looks at the biodiversity value of hedges and how the appropriate management of hedgerows can enhance this.

The second video, Hedging Carbon, was released earlier this week. It considers how hedges can capture carbon and help address climate change.

It also looks at the traditional skill of hedge laying. Lilian O’Sullivan from Teagasc and Mark McDowell of the Hedge Laying Association of Ireland feature along with James Ham.

Both videos were produced by the award winning film producers Bailey and Blake Productions with funding from the Heritage Council and Westmeath County Council.
