Sadness at passing of former Athlone Town manager
The Irish soccer community is today mourning the passing of Eddie Wallace, who had a spell managing Athlone Town between 2014 and 2015.
The highly-regarded coach came to Athlone as an assistant to then-manager Keith Long in 2014.
When Long left Athlone to take over as manager of Bohemians that November - a job he still holds - Wallace took charge as his replacement.
He served as Athlone Town manager until May of 2015, at which stage he left the role due to personal and family commitments.
In a statement announcing his departure at the time, Athlone Town thanked him for the "professionalism, commitment, knowledge and hard work he brought to the club," adding, "We all have learned from a true gentleman of Irish soccer."
In addition to his spell at Lissywollen, Wallace was involved with Cabinteely, Bray Wanderers, St Patrick's Athletic and UCD at various stages.
Players, supporters, and the FAI are among those who have been paying tribute to him after he passed away following an illness:
