Man killed following Kiltoom crash

A man in his 40s has died following a crash in Kiltoom this morning, Gardaí have confirmed.

He was travelling on the N61 from Roscommon when his vehicle hit a wall on the Athlone side of Ballybay, Kiltoom around 9.20am.

Gardaí said he received medical treatment at the scene but was later pronounced dead.

The body of the man has since been taken to the mortuary at Roscommon University Hospital. A post-mortem will take place in due course.

The road remains closed at this time with diversions in place. A technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators is underway.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N61 at this time, to make this footage available to them.

The deceased man, who is in his 40s, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Local reports indicate road conditions this morning were treacherous.
