New ramps installed in Athlone estate

New ramps have been installed in The Orchard estate along Ballymahon Road, in a bid to tackle speeding in the area.

Fine Gael Cllr John Dolan has welcomed the move this week.

"I had been approached by the residents and management company of the Orchard estate in relation to the speed of cars driving through the estate, which was a danger to the many children in the area in particular," said Cllr Dolan.

"I tabled a motion for the provision of these ramps last year and subsequently secured the funding for the ramps, I am now delighted that they are finally completed.

"I want to thank the Council Engineers Denis Sloyan and Pat Nallyand council staff for their help and the residents for their patience in waiting for the job to be done," added Cllr Dolan.

"I hope that the Orchard will be a safer estate for all the residents going forward."
