Cold and frosty morning but rain and wind on the way

Weather Update from Met Éireann

Unsettled conditions continuing over the next few days with spells of wet and windy weather.

Cold and frosty this morning with some icy stretches, leading to hazardous conditions. A mainly dry and bright start for most. Cloud will build from the west through the morning with rain moving in by midday, which will slowly spread eastwards across the country through the day. Becoming increasingly windy too, with southerly winds increasing fresh to strong and gusty with gales developing on Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, coldest in Ulster.

The rain will be persistent in parts of the west bringing a risk of localised flooding. Temperatures increasing overnight to between 6 and 9 degrees. A clearance to scattered showers will move into the west towards dawn.

Saturday will be breezy day with outbreaks of rain in the southeast clearing to widespread blustery showers through the morning, with some heavy bursts in places. Some sunny spells will occur also with the showers becoming isolated towards evening. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in fresh and gusty southwest winds.

Showers becoming confined to western coasts early on Saturday night with some clear intervals developing. Later in the night, rain will push in from the south, affecting much of Munster, south Leinster and south Connacht by dawn. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees. Fresh southwest winds will moderate overnight.

Some uncertainty in the forecast for Sunday but it looks like outbreaks of rain will move up over the country with some heavy bursts in places. The rain looks set to clear northwards in the evening with scattered showers to follow. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with moderate north to northwesterly winds.

Rain gradually clearing overnight on Sunday with clear spells developing and scattered showers, mainly along Atlantic coasts, with a chance of the odd sleet shower. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 4 degrees, in moderate northwest winds.

Monday is set to bring sunny spells and a good deal of dry weather, with some showers feeding in from the north in a fresh northwest airflow. Chilly with highest temperatures of just 5 to 8 degrees, with an added wind chill factor.

Cold overnight on Monday with clear spells at first in the east of the country with a touch of frost. Cloudier in the west with outbreaks of rain in strengthening westerly winds.
