New dates announced for rescheduled Athlone panto

Athlone's Robin Hood-themed panto, which was due to be staged in the Dean Crowe Theatre in January, will now take place next month.

Typically associated with the post-Christmas period, the panto will this year help usher in Spring, and will herald what will hopefully be a more normal period ahead for indoor live entertainment.

The rescheduled shows will be happening from Wednesday, March 2, to Sunday, March 6.

Evening performances, at 7.30pm, will be taking place each night from Wednesday to Saturday, and there will also be two matinee shows at 2pm on the Saturday and Sunday.

The Dean Crowe Theatre said it was "delighted" to announce the new dates, adding that the cast of talented local children and adults was preparing to deliver "a great night out" for the entire family.

"Robbing from the rich to give to the poor, Robin Hood and his Merry Men will have you in stitches from start to finish," said the theatre in a description of the show.

"Packed full of wonderful music and dance, with a hilarious cast of larger than life characters, follow the adventures of the noble thief, Robin Hood as he woos the beautiful Maid Marian and thwarts the evil Sheriff of Nottingham."

The panto was originally due to take place over two weekends in January, but it was postponed just after Christmas due to the rise in Covid cases at the time.

"The entire cast and crew have worked extremely hard pouring their energy and creativity into this production for the last several months. We will store that magic and you will see it on our stage before long," promised the Dean Crowe in a statement in late December.

Tickets for the rescheduled performances are now on sale from the venue's website: www.deancrowetheatre.com
