Meeting on Buccs’ 4G pitch plans to be held
Buccaneers have announced plans to develop a 4G pitch at Dubarry Park.
The news comes in the wake of a sports capital grant allocation of €96,600 for the project recently.
In a statement, the club confirmed it has its own funding of circa €160,000 ring-fenced for this project.
The club said the weather in recent years has highlighted the need for such a facility at Dubarry Park, especially with the mushrooming number of underage players now participating in rugby at Buccaneers RFC.
The club said a 4G pitch would be massively beneficial to the over 25 teams that it now fields regularly and would assist in facilitating training and matches for its youths and minis squads.
Connacht Rugby and local schools and colleges including TUS Athlone (Technological University of the Shannon), Marist College, Athlone Community College and Coláiste Chiaráin are also regular users of the Athlone venue that hosted Ireland U20 fixtures for a decade.
The club is holding a special meeting in the function room at The Bounty on Wednesday next, March 9 at 8pm to discuss this project. All are welcome to attend especially parents of underage players who are the future of the club. Please make a note of the date and come along.
