Local derby for Westmeath as Rossies avoid big guns

Westmeath have been drawn against Offaly in the Tailteann Cup semi-finals.

The game will take place on Sunday week, June 19 at Croke Park, with a place in the inaugural final at stake.

Tailteann Cup favourites Cavan will meet Sligo in the other semi-final and both games will be televised live on RTE.

Westmeath had five points to spare away to Carlow yesterday (Sunday), while Offaly were easy winners over New York on Saturday.

It will be the first Croke Park meeting between Westmeath and Offaly since 2006, when the Faithful men came out on top in a Leinster championship game.

Meanwhile, Roscommon have been paired with Clare in the second round of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers.

This means the Rossies have avoided Connacht rivals Mayo and Armagh, conquerors of 2021 All-Ireland champions Tyrone yesterday.

Roscommon and Clare drew when they met in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League earlier this year. They will meet in a neutral venue (details to be confirmed) next weekend (June 11/12).

The winners of the second round qualifiers will progress to the All-Ireland quarter-finals where they will face the provincial champions.
