There were tears of joy from Linda Murray and Lisa Ann Roche on Sunday after hearing that Athlone Musical Society earned 10 AIMS award nominations for its 'All Shook Up' show on the Dean Crowe Theatre.

Athlone musical earns a perfect 10 award nominations, including 'best show'

Athlone Musical Society returned to the stage in style in recent days, with its performance of All Shook Up earning no fewer than 10 nominations for this year's Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) awards.

The Elvis-themed show was performed in the Dean Crowe Theatre from Friday to Monday, June 3-6, and received glowing reviews from those in attendance.

On Sunday the nominations were announced for the AIMS awards, which take place in Killarney on Saturday, June 18.

Athlone Musical Society's ten nominations included one for 'best overall show' (Gilbert section) and individual nominations for Joe Steiner, Kori Kilduff, Chris Corroon, Ger Madden and Alfie Kilduff.

The contribution made by Olive Martin to the Athlone society was also recognised with her nomination for the Mary Kelly 'unsung hero' award.

On social media, the Athlone society expressed its delight at the 'incredible' achievement of ten award nominations, saying, "We can't believe it!"

Elsewhere in the region, Tullamore Musical Society said it was delighted to have been nominated for three AIMS awards for its production of The Addams Family which took place in early May.

Clara Musical Society also earned one nomination for its production of Shrek The Musical in April.

The full list of nominations for Athlone Musical Society in the Gilbert section of the awards is as follows: Best Overall Show, Best Chorus, Best Choreography, Best House Management, Best Comedienne (Kori Kilduff), Best Comedian (Joe Steiner), Best Male Actor (Chris Corroon), Best Musical Director (Ger Madden), Best Director (Alfie Kilduff) and Unsung Hero Award (Olive Martin).
