Irish Water warns of supply disruption in Athlone estates due to burst watermain

Irish Water has said a number of housing estates in the Cartrontroy area of Athlone are likely to experience disruption to their water supply this weekend as a result of essential repairs to a burst water main.

The repair works are planned for tomorrow (Saturday) morning, with an anticipated completion time of 8pm.

Residents in Cartrontroy, Ardnaglug, Cartron Drive, Hillcourt, and surrounding areas, "may experience temporary low pressure and/or water outages during the repairs," Irish Water said.

Alternative water supplies are due to be provided at the Ardnaglug housing estate.

Irish Water is carrying out the repair work in conjunction with Westmeath County Council, and it said crews would "make every effort to minimise the disruption to impacted customers" and would "work to complete these repair works as quickly and as safely as possible."

It added that, typically, it takes two to three hours following restoration time for the network to refill and normal water supply to fully return.

John Gavin, Regional Asset Operations Lead at Irish Water said, "Customers may experience some temporary discolouration of water following the works, and occasionally issues such as internal airlocks may arise.

Irish Water said that it and Westmeath County Council regretted any inconvenience caused.
