Firm seeks approval for temporary buildings

Almac Sciences (Ireland) Ltd, a member of the Almac Group, has revealed plans for additional temporary buildings at its facility in the IDA Business and Technology Park in Athlone.

What's proposed is described as a fully serviced temporary two-storey prefabricated building, including a two-storey link connected to another existing temporary two-storey prefabricated building (additional office use).

Minor internal alterations to existing building are also planned at Block 3 in the IDA Business and Technology Park, Garrycastle, Dublin Road as part of the planning application lodged at the end of May.

Almac Group, a Northern Ireland-headquartered global contract pharmaceutical development and manufacturing organisation, has two operations in Athlone, Arran Chemical Company in Monksland and Almac Sciences (Ireland) Ltd, after the company purchased BioClin in the IDA Business and Technology Park in Garrycastle in 2017. It is now known as Almac Sciences (Ireland) Ltd.

Last year the Almac Group, which is a global contract pharmaceutical development and manufacturing organisation, announced 50 new Athlone jobs as part of a recruitment drive for 1,800 new jobs across its worldwide operations over the next three years.Westmeath County Council is due to announce a decision on the plan for the extra temporary buildings by July 25.
