Actor Rhys Mannion, from Kiltoom, in a scene from the new Irish film ‘It Is In Us All’.

Film starring Athlone actor set for Galway fleadh premiere

A new film featuring a young actor from Kiltoom will have its Irish premiere at this year's Galway Film Fleadh, which gets underway next week. Rhys Mannion (19) plays one of the lead roles in 'It Is In Us All', a psychological drama which was filmed in Donegal towards the end of 2020.

The film, which was written and directed by Antonia Campbell-Hughes, and stars Cosmo Jarvis, had its world premiere at the South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival in Austin, Texas, in March of this year. Its Irish premiere will now take place in Galway's Town Hall Theatre at 6pm on Saturday, July 9. The 92-minute film follows its protagonists Hamish (Cosmo Jarvis) and Evan (Rhys Mannion) through the aftermath of a shocking car accident.

A review on the US entertainment website Variety described it as an "enigmatic" and "atmospheric" film in which "the bleak beauty of this isolated part of Ireland becomes a character all of its own."

The upcoming screening as part of the Galway Film Fleadh will be followed by a question and answer session with director Anthonia Campbell-Hughes and cast.

Rhys, a former student of Athlone Community College, is a son of Mary and Ciaran Mannion.
