Local country music sibling duo to film second season of popular TV show
Country music stalwarts Keith and Lorraine McDonald are currently filming the second season of the Keith & Lorraine Showband Show on Sky TV.
The country music show is on Thursday evenings at 8pm on Sky channel Spotlight 365.
Keith says people can expect a lot more on site locations. They filmed at Mount Falcon in Ballina for some of the second season where the siblings do a residency during the summer. “It's nice for us to go around and feature the wares they have to present. It's not everyday you see a hawk on TV.”
The sibling duo enjoy featuring music from the likes of Michael English, Joe Dolan, Daniel O'Donnell and Nathan Carter. “It's great to be able to put a spotlight on a musical genre we're a part of and not just people but our own friends. Keith says his father Frankie also has a section called 'Down Frankie Showband Street' which viewers will also really enjoy as Frankie takes a trip down memory lane. The country music star was the trumpet player in Joe Dolan’s band for 40 years and knows many people in the showband circuit as a result.
“Over lockdown it was a nice way for us to reach out to people and keep in touch with fans.”
According to Keith they are the first to get new country music out along with playing requests and classic hits from Elvis, Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow.
The new season of the show will be great for local businesses as parts of Athlone will be shown that people may not get to see. They have filmed in the Wineport Lodge in Glasson, the Shamrock Lodge Hotel and hope to film at the Hodson Bay Hotel later in the summer. “It will show people in England what Athlone has to offer.”
Nine episodes of the new season have been filmed already with filming expected to be completed by the end of August with the siblings also very busy performing across the country this summer.
The Keith & Lorraine Showband Show will broadcast on Spotlight TV on the Sky channel 365 at 8pm on Thursdays with three repeats over the weekend on the channel.
