A goal from Westmeath man Aidan Keena secured a famous victory for Sligo Rovers in Europe last night, as The Bit O' Red defeated Motherwell on their home patch.

Keena (23), who is currently the leading scorer in the League of Ireland Premier Division, pounced on a defensive mistake to lob the Motherwell 'keeper during the first leg of the Europa Conference League second qualifying round tie.

The memorable strike in the 27th minute was the only goal of the game, and it sets up a much-anticipated second leg in a completely sold-out Showgrounds next Thursday.

The winner of the tie will face either Norwegian side Viking FX or Slavia Prague in the next round.
