Rosemount v Tang to begin action as Fleadh causes fixture changes

The meeting of Rosemount and Tang will kick off this weekend's Westmeath SFC third round action tonight (Friday), throw-in 7.30m.

The game will be played in St Kieran's GAA Park, Castledaly - a venue which hasn't hosted many club championship games over the years.

With 2021 intermediate champions Tang and Rosemount having lost their first two Section B games, both will be really eager for a win tonight.

Only two teams from Section B will qualify for the knockout stages, so Tang and Rosemount face a major uphill battle in that regard. Indeed, avoiding the drop to the intermediate grade is surely the priority for both.

On Saturday evening, Garrycastle will face St Loman's, Mullingar in a repeat of last year's Westmeath SFC final. St Loman's eventually triumphed in the 2021 decider, but they needed a replay and extra-time in order to lift the Flanagan Cup.

Having defeated Mullingar Shamrocks in their opener, Garrycastle fell to a surprise defeat to Caulry in their last outing. John Donnellan's charges certainly won't get anything easy from the county champions who are also licking their wounds from a heavy defeat to The Downs.

The Garrycastle v Loman's clash will be preceded by the meeting of Moate All Whites and Tyrrellspass (TEG Cusack Park, 5.30pm). Moate drew their opening game against Killucan and then lost to Athlone, while Tyrrellspass have two wins from two games.

Fresh from the boost of their local derby win over Garrycastle, Caulry face Coralstown-Kinnegad in Rochfortbridge on Saturday. The Mount Temple/Baylin side will need to produce a big display against the Kinnegad-based outfit who reached this year's ACFL Division 1 final and who defeated Mullingar Shamrocks last time out.

On Sunday in Kinnegad (5.30), Athlone will look to continue their winning run against a Killucan side which recorded a comfortable victory over Rosemount last week. The Shannonsiders followed up their opening-round win over Tang with an incident-packed victory over Moate.

The other game on Sunday is the meeting of Mullingar Shamrocks and The Downs, who were very impressive winners over St Loman's in the second round.

In the Westmeath IFC, meanwhile, Maryland v Ballymore, Tubberclair v Castletown-Finea/Coole/Whitehall, Castledaly v St Mary's Rochfortbridge and Kilbeggan v Ballynacargy are among the games down for decision.

Castledaly and St Mary's have two wins apiece in Section A, and the same can be said of Tubberclair and Ballymore in Section B.

Similar to the SFC, only two teams will be qualify for the knockout stages from Section B, so Tubberclair and Ballymore certainly can't rest on their laurels yet.

Mullingar's hosting of the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann has led to some fixture changes, with TEG Cusack Park unavailable for games on Sunday, July 31 and all of next week due to traffic restrictions which will be in place.

See below for revised fixtures for this weekend and for the hurling championship games starting from next Thursday.
