Athlone Town trio get call up to women's national team training

Three members of the Athlone Town AFC women’s squad have been called up to an Irish Women’s National Team training session for home-based players.

Jessica Hennessy, Emily Corbet and Muireann Devaney have all been invited to attend the next training session, the club announced on its Facebook page today.

Vera Pauw’s Ireland women’s team is battling to secure qualification for the World Cup.

As part of the qualification series, Ireland will take on Finland on Thursday, September 1 in Tallaght Stadium before Travelling to face Slovakia in Senec on Thursday, September 6.

The call ups for the Athlone trio comes on the back of the team’s eye-catching displays which sees them sit in third position in the Women’s National League, with Corbet the league’s joint top scorer.

Athlone are away in the league to Cork City on Saturday evening. Kick off 5pm.
