Two cars burned in local estate

Two cars were burned in Baylough early this morning (Tuesday).

Gardaí believe that one car was set alight deliberately, and because of its proximity to the second, it too caught fire.

The cars were parked in the driveway of a house in the Annsfield Woods estate at the time, according to Sgt Andrew Haran from Athlone Garda Station.

He also confirmed that the incident is being treated as arson.

Athlone Fire Brigade confirmed they attended the fire following a call-out at 6.13am this morning (Tuesday) where they discovered two cars on fire in the driveway.

They were at the scene for an hour and a half until the blaze was dealt with.

There was some external damage to the front of the property.

Sgt Andrew Haran appealed for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
