Upcoming TG4 show to explore Westmeath's music and culture

A TG4 series which is shining a spotlight on the music and culture of six Irish counties will focus on Westmeath next week.

Rooted in live performance, Cúltír ('Hinterland') is hosted by Pauline Scanlon and Aoife Ní Bhriain, both rising stars of the Irish music scene.

Focusing primarily on traditional and folk music, the series will visit the Lake County in an episode which airs on Sunday, September 18, at 9.30pm.

Before then, Roscommon will be featured in this Sunday night's episode, which is set in Kings House in Boyle.

The Village Barn in Tyrrellspass is the venue for the Westmeath episode, which will look at the county's rich musical and cultural heritage.

Talented Athlone singer-songwriter Eva Coyle will be performing on the show, as will Colin Nee and legendary duo Foster & Allen.

A trip through time along Westmeath's famous lakes will bring Aoife to Belvedere House, home of the infamous Rochfords, while the ancient wonders of the Hill of Uisneach inspire Aoife to try her hand at a very modern artform – chainsaw carving.
