Sheep killed and one person injured in motorway crash

Several sheep were killed this morning and one person taken to hospital following an accident on the M6 motorway.

A jeep and a trailer and a van, who were both travelling eastbound at the time, collided close to Kilbeggan and both vehicles were flipped on their sides, according to Sgt Andrew Haran of Athlone Garda Station.

Gardaí and fire services attended the scene.

A number of sheep were killed in the accident and several others had to be euthanised afterwards.

One of the drivers, a male, was also taken to hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

At 3pm on Twitter, TII said on their traffic account that the stretch between Junction 6 Moate East and Junction 5 Tullamore eastbound has reopened to traffic after being closed for several hours folllowing the collision.
