Ten 'affordable homes' being made available in Athlone's Bower Hill

Westmeath County Council is this week launching a ten-unit Affordable Housing Scheme at the under-construction Bower Hill development in Athlone.

The council said the scheme would see the ten homes being offered "at a price that is lower than market value," with the specific price in each case being determined "in accordance with the income of the purchaser".

The ten homes that are being offered through the scheme consist of one two-bedroom house, eight three-bedroom houses, and one four-bedroom house.

In order to be eligible for the scheme, households must have a maximum income ranging from €75,729 to €91,119.

The minimum purchase prices of the ten houses will then range from €241,000 to €298,000.

The council said applications for the scheme would be accepted via an online portal only, with this portal going live on Monday, October 17, at 12 noon.

Applications will be accepted for a three-week period from October 17 to November 7.

The first residents of the 55-home Bower Hill development moved in this summer.

The estate, located at Lower Road, close to the town centre, is being built by PD Contractors Ltd for the property developer Ardent.ie.

PD Contractors broke ground on the development in June of last year, and approximately 80 construction workers have been employed at the site to date.
