Lead singer of The Jam, Paul Weller, spotted in Athlone

Popular English singer-songwriter Paul Weller, known for being the lead singer of The Jam, was recognised by a fan at Circle K, between Athlone and Moate, last Saturday.

Filmmaker Donal Moloney spotted the star eating inside the local service station.

Speaking about the experience, Donal said: "I met Paul at a Circle K petrol station just outside Athlone. He was eating by himself in the corner and not a person in the entire building seemed to recognise him.

"I decided to leave him alone and enjoy his grub and waited until he left the building. I asked apologetically if he’d mind a selfie. 'No problem mate' he replied. I thanked him and said 'Enjoy the tour.'

Donal posted the photo above on Twitter with the caption: "Amazing who you can bump into in a town called Malice these days."

Paul is in Ireland as part of his current tour and will play two sold out dates in the 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin tonight and tomorrow night and will perform in Ulster Hall in Belfast on Wednesday night.

Last May, Paul Weller released his acclaimed 16th solo album Fat Pop (Volume 1.)

'Will of The People', Paul's new album is a carefully curated collection of 31 tracks from his extensive catalogue of songs that didn't make it to one of his nine studio albums. It will be released on Friday October 28.
