Civil War photo exhibition comes to Athlone

Westmeath County Council, as part of its Decade of Centenaries programme, welcomes a new exhibition of photos from the Irish Civil War. Titled ‘Civil I Am’, the exhibition showcases around 40 images from the conflict, all collected from various archives and libraries.

Curated by Galway-based historian Damien Quinn, the exhibition will run until October 17 in Mullingar Public Library, from October 18 to 22 in Castlepollard Public Library and October 24 to November 2 in Athlone Public Library.

Historian in Residence Ian Kenneally will also provide short introductory talks, detailing aspects of the exhibition in the context of censorship and propaganda during the Civil War.

Leas Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council Cllr Aoife Davitt officially launched the exhibition in Mullingar Library on Tuesday night.

Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council Cllr Aengus O’Rouke will launch the exhibition in Athlone Public Library on October 27 at 6.15pm.
