Man dies following Banagher accident

A man in his 70s has died following a fatal road accident in Banagher.

The accident happened at the marina when a van entered the water at approximately 5.30pm on Sunday.

Emergency services arrived to scene shortly afterwards and treated the driver of the van, a man in his 70s, at the scene. The man was taken to Ballinasloe Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

There were no other persons in the vehicle.

The scene is currently preserved to allow for a technical examination to be carried out.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
