Hilly Bird by Kilbeggan artist Olivia Finn

Kilbeggan artist's exhibition opens tomorrow in Athlone Library

Visions and Revisions, an exhibition of artwork by Olivia Finn, launches tomorrow evening, Thursday, November 24, at 6.30pm in Athlone Library.

Olivia Finn is an artist based in Kilbeggan. Formerly a secondary school teacher and English and Politics graduate, Olivia has been painting since 2019.

Working with acrylic and oil paints, Olivia depicts the Irish landscape and its wildlife in an imaginative, fantastical way.

Influenced by surrealism and abstract art, Olivia is an artist who is passionate about depicting the times we live in including environmental awareness, social justice and the beauty of nature.

Visions and Revisions is a surreal collection of oil and acrylic paintings. The works in this exhibition offer a surreal interpretation of the ordinary, highlighting the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Leaf City.

Environmental issues, feminism, social justice and the beauty around us are all central to the collection. Everyday items such as leaves or eggs take on a dream-like quality, revising their aesthetics, taking them from the mundane to the magical.

In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, T.S. Eliot writes:

“…time yet for a hundred indecisions,

And for a hundred visions and revisions,

Before the taking of a toast and tea.”

This exhibition invites the viewer to take a surreal voyage with time for visions and revisions.

All are welcome to the launch of Visions and Revisions at 6.30pm on Thursday, and light refreshments will be provided.

Visions and Revisions runs from tomorrow until Thursday, December 8, during Athlone Library's opening hours.
