Brian Cody to speak at Buccaneers event

The legendary Brian Cody will be among the guest speakers at the Buccaneers Networking Business Lunch next February.

Former Ireland head coach Eddie O'Sullivan, who is currently in charge of the Buccaneers senior rugby team, will also be a speaker at the event. It will take place in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel on Friday, February 3 from 1pm to 5pm.

Cody guided Kilkenny to an astonishing eleven All-Ireland senior hurling titles during his lengthy spell as manager.

He stepped down as manager in July, shortly after Kilkenny's narrow defeat to Limerick in this year's thrilling All-Ireland final. The Cats had defeated Galway in the Leinster final, making it Cody's 18th senior provincial title as manager.

As a player Cody won three All-Ireland senior medals and lifted the Liam MacCarthy Cup as team captain in 1982.

The upcoming Buccaneers event won't be Cody's first visit to Athlone for a function involving a local club, as he presented medals to Southern Gaels underage hurling players in January, 2020.

O'Sullivan led Ireland to Triple Crown success on three occasions (2004, 2006 and 2007) during his tenure as head coach of the national team.

Last summer, Buccaneers pulled off a coup with the appointment of O'Sullivan and so far the Cork native is certainly having the desired impact, with Buccaneers currently top of the Energia All-Ireland League Division 1B table.

Renowned rugby player and analyst Liam Toland will act as Master of Ceremonies for the Buccaneers function in February, while comedian Aidan Tierney will add a lighter note to the proceedings.

There will be a four-course lunch with complimentary wine, while two tickets for the 2023 Six Nations match between Ireland and England on March 18, plus two nights B&B at Dublin’s Hyatt Centric Hotel, will be up for grabs at the lunch.
