Garda Christmas card appeal sees over 600 cards delivered to elderly

Community Gardai in Athlone have collected over 600 handmade Christmas cards from children all over Westmeath and delivered them to elderly and vulnerable people.

The gardai issued an appeal for handmade Christmas cards with positive Christmas messages on An Garda Siochana Westmeath's Facebook page last month.

Garda Stacey Looby said people were really appreciate of the cards and the Christmas messgaes from the children. “People have been coming in saying thanks to all the children.”

Garda Looby will also be delivering some Christmas cards to vulnerable people on Christmas Day in St Kieran's Community Centre where a Christmas dinner is also being provided.

Many local schools took part in the initiative which was the first of its kind in Westmeath. The last day for collections was on Thursday, December 8.
