Passing of former long-serving national school principal

The death has occurred of Vincent Keating, a former long-serving principal of Tubberclair NS.

Mr Keating, ''Lia Fáil'', Moor View, Athlone, passed away suddenly at his residence on Thursday.

Formerly of Cross, Kilrush, Co. Clare, the late Mr Keating had served as Principal of Tubberclair NS for over 40 years, taking up the role in 1962 before his retirement in 2003.

He had previously been principal of Aughrim NS and a teacher in Rosemount.

Mr Keating was also a dedicated Gaelic Games enthusiast, and was secretary of Athlone GAA for many years. He also dedicated a 35-year stint to Westmeath Cumann na mBunscoil.

Predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Michael, sister Irene and brother Ollie, Vincent will be forever loved and greatly missed by his heartbroken family, his wife Breeda, sons Fintan, Oliver and Pádraig, daughters Yvonne and Stephanie, daughters-in-law Rosemarie and Áine, sons-in-law Louis and Aidan, brothers Colm and Gabriel, sister Lourdes (Gleeson), sister-in-law Madeline, brother-in-law Bert, grandchildren Conor, Wasini, Oisín, Fionn, Enda, Paul, Maria, Barry, Ronan, Cillian and Eva, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Reposing at Flynn's Funeral Home, The Strand on Saturday evening from 3pm until 6pm. Requiem Mass in Our Lady's Queen of Peace, Coosan Church at 1.30pm on Sunday with burial afterwards in Tubberclair Cemetery.
