Singleton and Brennan join Athlone in double boost

The Athlone Town women’s team has been given a double boost ahead of the 2023 season with the signings of Chloe Singleton and Shauna Brennan from Galway WFC.

Monksland native Singleton plays in an attacking midfield role and she scored twice on her debut for Athlone Town in last weekend’s 3-1 friendly win over Sligo Rovers.

Chloe has played in the Women’s National League since 2017 with Galway and has been capped at international level for the Ireland U-19 team.

Brennan, who is from Galway, plays at left-back and she also made her debut for Athlone in the friendly against Sligo.

Shauna was a regular for Galway since 2020 and has also been capped at international level.

The arrival of Singleton and Brennan is welcome news for Athlone after the departures of Jessica Hennessy, Melissa O'Kane and Emily Corbet from last year's squad.

Galway WFC decided not to apply for inclusion in the 2023 Women's National League, but Galway United have stepped into the breach and will compete this year.
