Athlone jockey returns after two-month injury lay-off

Athlone jockey Kielan Woods has returned to the sport after almost two months out injured.

Woods was back in the saddle at Stratford on April 1 after recovering from breaking four vertebrae in his back when unseated from Robeam at Huntingdon on February 9.

Woods missed out on the Cheltenham Festival, but his recovery sees him available for the Aintree Festival next weekend, where, at the moment, he has a possible ride on Global Citizen in the Red Rum Chase on Thursday.

Woods and Global Citizen enjoyed a huge success at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival in the Grand Annual Handicap Chase. It was his second win in the race, having triumphed with Croco Bay in the same race at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival.
