Improvements planned for local racecourse

Fresh from their recent successful two-day meeting, Kilbeggan Race Committee is planning a number of improvements at the popular Midlands racecourse venue.

The group recently submitted plans to Westmeath County Council seeking approval to build twelve new horse stables with concrete yards, a new general storage building, two new security huts and a loading ramp at the course in Loughanagore, close to Kilbeggan.

In addition, the project would see a current storage building and a loading ramp demolished and the conversion of two existing stables into a vets sampling area, with the installation of a horse trot up area also proposed.

An extension to existing parking facilities is also part of the new plans lodged earlier this month, along with the installation of a new high level water tank and all site services, fencing etc.

A decision is due on the project by June 14 next.
