Ballinasloe Cancer Support Centre launches reiki therapy service
Ballinasloe Cancer Support Centre has announced a new reiki therapy service, which is set to get underway on Friday, May 12 at their base in Cullen's Yard, just off Main Street.
The centre, affiliated to the Irish Cancer Society, will run the service from 10am to 2pm every second week and booking is essential. Information on reiki can be obtained from the office open from 10am to 2pm every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Louise Furey a native of Tuam trained as a reiki practitioner in 2014 and she received a BA degree as a Holistic counsellor and psychotherapist in February 2020. Her passion is always helping and supporting people on their journey through their struggles or issues in life.
It was through her own life experience and struggles over many years that lead her down the path as a psychotherapist and a reiki practitioner. She was always at a crossroads between both, of which path she would take but when lockdown happened in March 2020, her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer that went into the brain.
Throughout lockdown, she began doing reiki on her sister. Her sister found it so relaxing and helped her sleep and relaxed her mind. When lockdown lifted, she knew what path she wanted to take was reiki as she saw the benefits it gave people. She took the leap and set up her business in January 2023 in Tuam, as a reiki practitioner.
She learned the importance of healing from within and the power that healing has on our mind, body, soul as well as impacting those around us.
Among the benefits of reiki is a reduction in anxiety and stress, it helps with insomnia, depression, boosting mood and eases physical pain.
Louise will also be taking part in the Sligo Camino on July 1 to raise funds for the centre. For more information on the Camino please follow this link, www.sligocamino.ie. To support Louise and the centre, check out the idonate.ie Ballinasloe Cancer Support page.
Chairperson Liam Connaire said: “I would like to thank the people who fund us and the local businesses who have supported us. This has led to an increase in our services in the past couple of months and for which we are for every grateful”. The centre is run entirely by volunteers and supported by CE Schemes. This ensures that all money received is put into providing services for those who most need it."
