TUS opens new student liaison office in Africa
Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has announced the opening of its latest Student Liaison Office, located in Lagos, Nigeria.
The new office will provide a vital support network for students from Nigeria and other sub-Saharan countries who wish to study in Ireland at one of the university’s six campuses.
The official opening ceremony was attended by His Excellency Peter Ryan, Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria, who expressed his admiration for the commitment and investment made by TUS in building stronger bonds and opportunities for students from Nigeria and Ireland.
Commenting on the opening of the Nigerian Student Liaison Office, President of TUS Professor Vincent Cunnane said: “TUS has been working towards developing relationships with African countries for the past six years and the opening of our Student Liaison Office in Lagos is a significant step in further strengthening these bonds.
"We are committed to expanding relationships with our global partners to attract international students and researchers to TUS as well as offering international opportunities to our students, staff and researchers.”
His Excellency Peter Ryan, Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria added that the opening of the Technological University of the Shannon Student Liaison Office in Lagos marks a very positive step in building educational partnership between Ireland and Nigeria.
"This commitment to fostering academic excellence will shape a brighter future for all, strengthening bonds between these two countries. I eagerly anticipate the positive impact it will have on the lives of numerous students and the broader educational landscape," he commented.
The Lagos office is the fourth Student Liaison Office for TUS International, joining existing offices in New Delhi, India; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Shanghai, China.
Donnacha McNamara, Vice President of International at TUS, also emphasised the significance of the new office in Nigeria.
"We are delighted to open our first Student liaison Office in Nigeria as our goal is to provide a base for Irish students and lecturers who wish to work with African universities and to provide support to students from Nigeria and other sub-Saharan countries who wish to study in Ireland.
"We are committed to internationalisation and this new office is another step towards achieving that goal."
Mr McNamara also highlighted TUS's plans to further develop the university's presence in South America and Europe in collaboration with its European partners in The Regional University Network (RUN EU).
