Westmeath and Roscommon sites searched by Criminal Assets Bureau

Gardai said the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) conducted a search operation across six counties, including Westmeath and Roscommon, yesterday (Thursday) morning.

The searches resulted in the seizure of €59,000 in cash and €2,000 worth of cannabis, along with documents and electronic devices.

One man in his 40s was arrested during the course of yesterday's operation, for an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act, and he was detained yesterday at a Garda station in Westmeath.

The man has since been released without charge, and a file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In addition to Westmeath and Roscommon, yesterday's operation targeted sites in Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Cork.

The searches were conducted by Bureau Officers supported by the Regional Armed Support Unit, Gardaí attached to Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Cork and Westmeath, and the Revenue Customs Dog Unit.

A Garda statement said yesterday's operation represented "significant progress in an ongoing proceeds of crime investigation targeting multiple properties and land believed to be acquired with the proceeds of crime."
