The scene in the aftermath of a house fire which completely destroyed a house on Ballymore’s Main Street in the early hours of Friday morning last, May 19.

Ballymore house “completely destroyed” by fire

Two units from Ballymahon and Mullingar Fire Service attended the scene of a house fire in Ballymore in the early hours of Friday morning last, May 19, after they were alerted at approximately 4.10am.

According to a spokesperson for Longford Fire Service, the fire, which broke out at a single storey terraced house on Main Street, was “well alight” upon the arrival of the fire service, and the dwelling was “completely destroyed.”

The spokesperson also confirmed that neighbouring properties were also damaged and that one person received medical assistance at the scene

Gardai and the ambulance service also attended the scene of the fire and a spokesperson for Athlone Gardai said all the circumstances surrounding the fire are “currently under investigation.”

It is understood the GAA clubs of Drumraney and Ballymore are to meet this week to discuss arranging a fundraiser to help the resident of the house.

Meanwhile, Athlone Gardai have confirmed that a fire which completely destroyed a private residence in Ballykeeran, in the early hours of Sunday, April 23 last was caused by an electrical fault.

Two units of Athlone Fire Brigade had to use the assistance of a platform lift when they attended the scene of the fire at Low Road, Ballykeeran, after being alerted at approximately 5.09am on April 23 last.

Gardai and the ESB were also notified and attended at the scene, and the house was “completely destroyed” by the blaze, according to a spokesperson for Athlone Fire Service.
