Midlands tops group in Gaynor Cup

The Midlands Schoolboys/Girls League has qualified for the knock out stages of the Gaynor Cup after winning its opening two games. The team overcame Kilkenny 2-0 on Monday, before defeating Cavan/Monaghan 4-0 this morning.

The victories means the Midlands are guaranteed to top the group, irrespective of the result of their final group game against Donegal this afternoon.

The Gaynor Cup is the girls’ counterpart to the Kennedy Cup. It continues at University of Limerick until Friday.

Goals from Hodson Bay Celtic’s Caoilfhinn Brett and Ballinahown’s Nessa Trainor secured the victory on Monday. Both Brett and Trainor were again on target against Cavan/Monaghan along with Ballinahown’s Leah Concannon and Killeigh’s Emma Mooney.
