Westmeath and Roscommon ladies to begin All-Ireland quest

Both the Westmeath and the Roscommon ladies will begin their TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship campaigns with a home match next Sunday, June 11.

Westmeath - who are managed by former Roscommon star Michael Finneran - will face Antrim at Home Instead Lakepoint Park (home ground of the St Loman's, Mullingar club) on Sunday, throw-in 2pm. Meanwhile, Roscommon will take on Wexford at Dr Hyde Park, also at 2pm, with this fixture having been moved from its original venue of Ballyforan.

Although Westmeath's Leinster Intermediate Championship hopes ended with a disappointing semi-final defeat to Wexford, they will still hope to be among the leading contenders for the All-Ireland crown. Neighbours Longford are also in Westmeath's group.

For their part, Roscommon defeated Leitrim in the Connacht intermediate final last month as they bounced back from being relegated from Division 2 of the Lidl NFL. That provincial success is a boost for Ollie Lennon's outfit as they prepare for the All-Ireland series. Monaghan are the other team in Roscommon's group.

In Group 2, Offaly host Clare in Bretland Park, Clara on Sunday (12 noon).

The reward for the group winners in the Intermediate Championship is a home quarter-final, with the last-eight ties to be confirmed by a draw. The quarter-finals are scheduled for Sunday, July 9, with the semi-finals down for decision on Sunday, July 23.

The TG4 All-Ireland Championships will conclude at Croke Park on Sunday, August 13 with a triple-header of finals, including the historic 50th All-Ireland senior decider.
