Deep sadness at death of hugely-popular local man

Athlone is mourning the death of a hugely popular and prominent citizen today.

Jim Campbell, Fardrum, a member of a long established Athlone family, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday.

Jim, a Town Engineer for a period during the 1990s, was deeply involved in Athlone Sub Aqua Club for decades, serving as chairman for many years. A popular and affable figure, his death leaves a huge void for his family, his many friends and the wider community.

He is sadly missed by his loving wife Deirdre (Di), daughter Sarah, sons Micheál and David, grandchild Finley James, sister Mary, nephews, nieces, in-laws, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

A death notice posted today states family flowers only and asked that donations, if desired, be made in lieu to Athlone Sub Aqua Club.
