Athlone Town player gets international call-up for El Salvador

A 25-year-old Athlone Town defender has been given an international call-up for El Salvador.

German Fuentes Rodriguez, who has been regular starter for the local club this season, will go from playing against Wexford and Waterford to facing Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago in the coming days.

In a post on social media, Athlone Town congratulated German on his call-up for the two games in the CONCACAF Nations League.

Separately, Athlone Town's prolific striker Frantz Pierrot was named in the League of Ireland First Division team of the week after he was on the mark again in a 2-1 win away to Waterford last weekend.

Athlone, in fourth place in the table, remain on course to be part of this year's promotion relegation play offs.

Their next outing is a trip south to face third-placed Cobh Ramblers this Saturday.
