Athlone piano recital in aid of St Vincent de Paul

A piano recital featuring the works of classical artists Bach, Mozart and Beethoven will take place in Athlone this Friday.

Roscommon man and pianist Daren Lane will give a solo recital on Friday, September 15 at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church, Athlone.

The concert is in aid of the local branch of St Vincent De Paul (SVP) and Daren will play pieces from Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin and Schumann.

Joe Scanlon from SVP said that the charity “would encourage people to attend and support” the event as the funds will be distributed to people in need in the local area. “We'd encourage people to attend and support St Vincent de Paul.”

Daren plays in St Mary's Church, Athlone, once every fortnight and is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the London College of Music, specialising in piano. He also attended the Purcell School of Music, the oldest music school in Britain and has given piano recitals in London, Bury St Edmunds and Athlone. Daren regularly accompanies at concerts given by the Athlone Choral Society and has experience teaching piano in London, Athlone and Roscommon town.

Admission to the piano recital is free but donations to SVP are welcome. Programmes will be on sale on the night outlining the music played that evening. The piano recital previously took place in 2019.
