Two pensioners assaulted in another Athlone aggravated burglary

Gardai are investigating another aggravated burglary in Athlone in which two elderly people were assaulted.

The shocking incident on Friday evening has prompted Gardai to issue another public appeal for information.

The aggravated burglary occurred on Friday evening, September 8, at a domestic residence in Cartron Drive..

Shortly after 6pm, two individuals entered the property. A male in his 80s and a female in her 70s were assaulted and a sum of cash was taken during the course of this incident.

The man received medical treatment at the scene from paramedics for his injuries.

A technical examination of the scene has been conducted by Gardaí and investigations are currently ongoing.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with any information regarding this incident to come forward.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Retreat Road or Cartron Drive estate area of Athlone between 5pm and 6.30pm on September 8, and believes they may have seen something out of the ordinary, to make contact with them.

The incident follows a separate burglary in the Cornamaddy/Ballykeeran area in the early hours of Saturday, September 2, in which a man (79) was assaulted.
