Tony Parker cycle taking place from Mount Temple this Saturday

A fundraising cycle in memory of local teenager Tony Parker will take place this coming Saturday (September 16), starting and finishing in Mount Temple.

This is the eleventh year of the event, which returned last September after an enforced break during the pandemic.

The cycle is the main fundraiser each year for the Tony Parker Memorial Fund, which purchases and distributes defibrillators for community use across the Midlands.

On Saturday the cycle will take place from Egan's pub in Mount Temple at 11am (registration from 10am), and the 60-kilometre route will include Moate, Clara, Tullamore and Kilbeggan, before returning to Mount Temple.

This month marks the sixteenth anniversary of the passing of Tony Parker, who was sixteen years of age when he collapsed and died during a PE class at Moate Community School on September 4, 2007.

Over the years, the memorial fund in Tony's name has helped fund the purchase of more than 100 defibrillators.

Sponsorship cards for the cycle are available, or participants can register for €25 on the day.
