Athlone Gardai issue warning about scam callers to houses

Gardai in Athlone have warned members of the public to be aware of the potential for scam callers to houses in the locality.

In a message on social media this week, Garda Síochána Westmeath said: "Gardai in Athlone are asking the public to be aware of scam callers to the home.

"Recently there have been a few burglaries where people have had monies taken by force.

"If anyone calls stating they are from Irish Water or other utility company, unannounced, please look for ID before letting them in."

Members of the public were encouraged to share this message with elderly relatives or neighbours.
