Three objections against Athlone flood cell CPO

An Bord Pleánala has confirmed it is considering three objections against the confirmation of a compulsory purchase order proposed by Westmeath County Council for the purpose of the construction of the Deerpark flood cell as part of the Athlone Flood Alleviation Scheme.

Westmeath County Council published the Compulsory Purchase (Number 2) 2023 in May. If confirmed, the order would authorise the local authority to acquire compulsorily seven plots of land in the townland of Athlone and Big Meadow. and acquire permanent wayleave rights over two plots

The board has confirmed to the Westmeath Independent that three objections were received. Generally, in the case where objections remain, the board holds an oral hearing on the matter.

“No decision has been made regarding oral hearing. The current target date for decision is 26th October, 2023,” it said.
