Athlone and Shels set up Women's Cup final rematch
Athlone Town will meet Shelbourne in the FAI Women's Cup final for the second successive year after the two teams came through their semi-finals last Saturday.
Shels came out on top last year but Athlone will be aiming to turn the tables in next month's decider.
Madison Gibon scored two goals, the first from a penalty, as Athlone claimed a comprehensive 4-0 win over Sligo Rovers in their semi-final at The Showgrounds last Saturday evening.
The other goals came from Jesi Lynne Rossman and Sligo native Roisin Molloy.
Having opened the scoring from the spot with half an hour gone, American ace Gibson got a second on 41 minutes when her shot from distance took a wicked deflection off Sligo defender Eimear Lafferty and looped over goalkeeper Bonnie McKiernan into the net.
On 62 minutes, Gibson's corner was dropped by McKiernan and Rossman finished the ball to the net from close range.
Molloy wrapped things up with a fourth goal on 75 minutes to put Athlone back in with a chance of winning the Women's Cup for the first time.
Earlier on Saturday, goals from Christie Gray and teenager Hannah Healy gave Shelbourne a 2-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght Stadium as they remained on course to retain their crown.
The Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup final will take place on Sunday, November 19 at Tallaght Stadium (kick-off 3pm) and it will shown live on RTÉ2.
