Nominations are now open for Roscommon Volunteer Awards

Nominations are being invited for the Roscommon Volunteer Awards, which are held annually in recognition of volunteers and community groups that generously give their time and energy to improving their communities.

With a host of award categories, everyone is encouraged to nominate an arts or culture organisation/group as a way of formally thanking them for the work they do.

One of the many award categories this year is one called ‘Arts and Culture Organisation’ which recognises a non-profit charitable organisation or community group that helps to advance the arts. The organisation/group may lead creative activities or encourage artistic expression and their actions will contribute to a more vibrant environment.

Other categories include the ‘Spirited Volunteer’ award (this is someone that always is enthusiastic and willing to help out) or for ‘Board Member 2023’ as most community organisations/groups are run by voluntary boards that provide leadership and guidance.

All organisations nominated for the Roscommon Volunteer Awards —no matter their size—will have provided some kind of cultural activity that enables people to be more connected to the arts, heritage, music, poetry or other forms of creative expression which is so important for the human spirit.

The closing date for nominations is November 17, and further information can be found on the website: volunteerroscommon.ie

Community organisations can be nominated under the following four categories:

1. Social Inclusion Initiative 2023

2. School Champions 2023

3. Arts & Culture Organisation 2023

4. Community Centre 2023

Category Details

Social Inclusion Initiative:

This category celebrates community organisations that involve marginalised people in their work.

They may have removed barriers, bias, or discrimination for clients or service users. These actions have lead to a more inclusive and cohesive Roscommon.

School Champions

This category recognises a school committee which has benefited a school. This could be a parent’s association, Board of Management, student council, or other group. Activities could include organising events or raising funds for the school. Other positive changes will be considered.

Arts and Culture Organisation

This category celebrates groups in Roscommon that help to advance the arts. The group may lead creative activities or encourage artistic expression. Their actions will contribute to a more vibrant environment.

Community Centre 2023

This category recognises a community centre that contributes to the well-being of local residents.

The centre may have developed a space for social interaction, offered recreational activities, or fostered a sense of belonging which has enhanced the quality of life for locals.
