Pixies the latest band announced for Galway Airport concert series

It was announced today that Pixies will play at one of the 'Galway Summer Sessions' concerts being planned for the former Galway airport site next summer.

The Bostonian rock band will perform on August 27 next, and tickets (priced €59.90 including booking fee) will go on sale from Ticketmaster at 9am this Friday, November 24.

The Galway City Tribune recently reported that up to 10 concerts could take place at the Galway airport site over a 20-day period next August.

The former regional airport, which hasn't handled passenger traffic since 2011, is located in Carnmore on the eastern outskirts of the city.

Gigs there by Fatboy Slim (August 9), Belters Only (August 11), The Waterboys (August 19), The Wolfe Tones (August 23) and The Coronas (August 24) were previously announced this month.

Pixies, fronted by singer Black Francis, are no strangers to Galway having performed two shows there last year as part of the Galway Arts Festival.

In addition to the Galway airport show next August, the band will be playing at RDS Simmonscourt in Dublin on August 29 next.
