RTÉ One's Angelus set to feature Athlone scene
A familiar Athlone scene is set to feature on the People's Angelus on RTÉ One at 6pm every Friday until early January.
The Christmas Nativity Crib, which is organised every year by the Knights of St Columbanus close to St Mary's Church, will feature in the short film on national television for the next few weeks.
A choir from St Mary's NS will also feature in the filmed segment accompanying the daily Angelus bells at 6pm every Friday evening until January 5.
The Athlone branch of the Knights of Columbanus have featured in the Angelus clip several times over the years, and the late Declan Browne, who operated the Liturgical Book Restorers business on Main Street, was filmed at work for the segment which ran for eight years before he sadly passed away in March.
Following that, the Angelus clip in which Declan was featured was aired again in his memory.
RTÉ estimates some 500,000 people will view the latest shots from Athlone each evening.
