Druid Theatre's acclaimed production of 'Shadow of a Gunman' by Sean O'Casey will be in Roscommon Arts Centre on February 8,9 and 10.

Druid and Jack L set for Roscommon shows

Roscommon Arts Centre has announced a hugely varied programme of events in their newly released Spring brochure, with performances by the acclaimed Druid Theatre company, a date by singer Jack L and the arrival of comedians Pat Shortt and Conal Gallen among the many highlights.

The New Year begins with laughter as Pat and Faye Shortt return to the county with their new show 'Knuckle Down' on January 12. This sold-out Roscommon show returns to a collection of mad characters that were so popular with audiences who saw the father and daughter's first show together 'Well'.

On Friday, January 19, the fun and laughs continue with the multi-award-winning Conal Gallen, who is back on tour with his hilarious one-man stand-up show 'Brace Yourself'.

The following night, audiences are in for a musical treat as one of Ireland's most enigmatic performers takes to the stage. With a career spanning 25 years, Jack L fans can expect a spectacular live performance with all his old favourites like 'Georgie Boy' and new tracks from his latest album 'Echo On'.

On January 27, Europe’s number 1 Johnny Cash & June Carter tribute show ‘Cash Returns’ are back in Roscommon Arts Centre for a live spectacular which is already sold-out. Audiences will ‘Walk The Line’ with JP Mac as the man in black, Karen Martin as June Carter, assisted by 10-piece band.

Undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year for Roscommon Arts Centre will be the arrival of Druid Theatre for their five-star production of Sean O'Casey's classic 'Shadow of a Gunman' on February 8,9 and 10.

Set against the backdrop of the Irish War of Independence, and by turns tragic and comic, O’Casey’s The Shadow of a Gunman is the tale of an ambitious young woman who dreams of a life beyond her Dublin tenement with the mysterious neighbour downstairs.

Directed by Garry Hynes, The Shadow of a Gunman features Druid Ensemble members Rory Nolan and Marty Rea, alongside Gabriel Adewusi, Clare Barrett, Caitríona Ennis, Bosco Hogan, Sean Kearns, Robbie O’Connor and Catherine Walsh.

Fans of Irish bands Something Happens and Hot House Flowers will certainly look forward to the visit of On The Road Again' to Roscommon on February 17, which promises to be a fun evening of songs and stories as Fiachna Ó Braonáin from Hot House Flowers and Radio 1 and Tom Dunne from Something Happens and Newstalk, along with Alan Connor from the Late Late Show band hit the road together for the very first time.

The show comprises songs from both Hot House Flowers, Something Happens and music from some of guys favourite performers.

Staying with music but changing genres, Patrick Feeney will be in Roscommon on February 22 with his country and gospel show, while Luke Thomas and his Swing Cats have a date in Roscommon on March 23.

In between there's a great magic show 'It's Magic' with RTE's Joe the magician on February 24, and then a feast of drama to look forward to during Roscommon Drama Festival running from March 1 to 9.
