Clean sweep at Barra Flynn Memorial Scholarship Awards

Our Lady’s Bower is delighted to have won the Best Overall School Award at the Barra Flynn Memorial Scholarship Awards ceremony, as Bower students picked up every possible award in the competition.

The Barra Flynn Memorial Scholarships are awarded to the top three students in the Midlands, who attain the highest Leaving Certificate points and who have chosen to pursue a Law degree at a 3rd level institution.

From the Leaving Certificate Class of 2023, Mary Doyle, who achieved 625 points in her Leaving Cert, was the overall 1st place winner. Last year’s Head Girl, Kate Mannion, was awarded the 2nd place award. Ella May Dowling and Ashling Kenny received joint 3rd place. The four girls, accompanied by Principal Anne Beades, attended a congratulatory ceremony on Friday, December 1.

This is the first time in the 31-year history of the awards ceremony, that one school has exclusively won all three awards, and the 12th time that Our Lady's Bower has been awarded best overall school. This is no doubt a result of the excellent opportunities made available to students at Our Lady’s Bower to engage in extracurricular activities that cultivate skills necessary for a law-based career, such as debating, public speaking, Student Council, Comhairle na nÓg, Green Schools Committee, Youth Parliament, Junior Mayor and the Irish-Second Level Students’ Union.

Our Lady’s Bower would like to congratulate Mary, Kate, Ella May and Ashling on this wonderful achievement and wish them continued success with their Law studies.
