Pete Casey to host ‘In the Spotlight’ free local concert

Local DJ and radio presenter Pete Casey will host a free Athlone concert showcasing and celebrating emerging local musical talent in the Dean Crowe Theatre later this month.

Funded by Coimisiún na Meán (Ireland’s media regulator), 'In the Spotlight' is the brainchild of Athlone Community Radio (ACR), and Colin Fahy of local video production company, Depict Media, and will take place on Sunday, January 21 at 8pm.

Among the artists taking part are Ballinasloe's rising country and folk star Rachel Goode, Athlone singer/songwriter Rob Irwin, local band See Saw Swing, Aisling Rafferty, who many people would know from TG4's Glor Tíre talent show series and four-piece trad rock band Tradstone, whose members hail from Lorrha in Tipperary and Portumna in Galway.

“'In the Spotlight' is a unique collaboration bringing together the creative talents of Depict Media and our dynamic team at Athlone Community Radio (ACR) for an evening filled with live music and insightful discussions,” explained Deirdre Hunt from ACR.

“Athlone Community Radio is delighted to join forces with Colin Fahy for an event which will also emphasise the importance of community radio in supporting the vibrant arts scene,” she said. “'In the Spotlight' will be a fantastic opportunity for musicians and enthusiasts to come together, learn, and be inspired.”

The organisers are hoping that local people will turn out in large numbers at the Dean Crowe Theatre for what is a free event for all music fans.

For local artists involved in this project, there is an added bonus of raising their profile within the industry, in the media and among the general public. All of the artists will undergo training in media skills, social media skills and video/photography to help them boost their profiles.

A passionate advocate for the arts and music, Colin Fahy of Depict Media will bring his extensive video and photography experience to the stage to help provide a platform for emerging artists and bands.

“We believe that 'In the Spotlight' is not just an event but a celebration of our local artists, their talents, and the immense potential of the live music industry," he said. “Through this collaboration with Athlone Community Radio, we aim to provide a platform where artists can grow and connect with the industry's veterans. It's a testament to our commitment to nurturing the music scene here in Athlone.”

'In the Spotlight' promises to be a night of unforgettable music and insights that will resonate with both emerging artists and established professionals.
